“A Hero’s Salute” for Massachusetts Gold Star Families

In February 2010, The Military Friends Foundation launched A Hero’s Salute program to support families of Massachusetts service members killed-in-action. A Hero’s Salute is designed to offer direct financial support up to $1,000 to these Massachusetts Gold Star Families in the days immediately following a combat-related death.

This is the first Military Friends Foundation program which is open to families of all Massachusetts active and reserve components. We want express our thanks to the Gold Star Wives, Gold Star Mothers and Casualty Assistance Officers for their support in implementing this program. Portions of this program are supported through the Massachusetts Military Family Relief Fund. The funding support for families of active components comes from the generosity of private donations.

As part of A Hero’s Salute, the Military Friends Foundation will offer every family, upon request, a display of hand held United State Flags during a funeral procession route or memorial service. Members of the Military Friends Board of Directors and volunteers will be available to donate and distribute flags as part of a final salute to our fallen Heroes.

All flags are Made in America and purchased in Massachusetts whenever possible.

*The families of service members, whose official Home of Record is Massachusetts, are eligible for these programs. Although we are unable to pay for funeral expenses, we are able to assist with most other personal family expenses.
